Choosing a business name is tough!
I knew I didn't want my personal name, and to be perfectly honest, I didn't want the word Dietitian even though that's what I am, mainly because many people see the word Dietitian and think "she does diets" ... I'll do a separate post on what being a Dietitian actually means. So, I was left with the word Nutrition which had to be included so that people could at least tell what industry my service is in.
I believe that eating these days is far more complex than it ever used to be, mainly because we are bombarded with fad diets and news articles telling us what we should or shouldn't be eating (most of which is just rubbish), alongside a world where convenience is everything because no one has time anymore. I want to be able to provide the confidence to individuals to listen to their hunger cues and be able to trust that the food they are picking up to eat is nourishing and perfect for that moment in time.
I thought about the traffic light system we see on food labels warning us if something has too much fat, sugar or salt and that whilst it can be useful it can also be a little intimidating for some people and put them off eating the food even though actually there is nothing wrong with what they were choosing. I want to give confidence back to individuals about what they are eating and reassure them that all foods can get the green light. So that’s where Green Light Nutrition came from.
I also thought about the logo and what I wanted it to show. I knew I didn’t want an apple (why do so many Dietitians have apples on their website?!) but I did of course want it to be green. I enlisted the service of a great graphic designer friend and brainstormed with him. After explaining how I work with patients and clients in that no two consultations are the same, and that I provide a personalised plan, he suggested a fingerprint pattern to indicate the individualised element behind eating. So a green fingerprint with a subtle little G in the middle and voila!
So there you have it, the story behind the brand.
